Centennial Star Behavior

Centennial implemented school-wide behavior expectations for all students in order to provide consistency and a common language across all school settings. Our Star Behaviors include:

1. Be a good community member

  • Be respectful and kind to others
  • Be a responsible citizen
  • Help others be safe
  • Treat others as you want to be treated

2. Be prepared to learn

  • Have homework completed on time
  • Take materials to class
  • Listen to the teacher
  • Participate in class
  • Work quietly so others can learn

3. Follow directions the first time

4. Keep hands and feet to yourself

5. Respect school property

Centennial Star Behavior posters are hanging in each classroom and throughout the building so the students know that these are behaviors that all students and staff follow. Teachers spend time teaching and reinforcing these behavior expectations so that students know what each expectation "looks like."

When a student has difficulty following one of the expectations, he or she receives a "time-out." A time-out is a way to give a verbal reminder to students and provide them with an opportunity to think about what they are doing and the behavior expectations they need to follow. If a students earns three timeouts, he or she will write an action plan with an adult. An action plan gives students the opportunity to discuss their behavior with an adult and develop a plan for when they return to class.
