C-Club
Grade Level: 9-12
Duration: Year-round
Meetings: As needed.  
Description: Organization of CHS athletic letter winners.  
Requirements: Must have earned a varsity letter in sports, cheerleading or dance.  
Projects: Wednesday Popcorn, Middle School Dances, STARS Carnival, Victory Bell and Trophy Case Maintenance
Advisor: Mr. Moore
Getting Involved: Show up to a meeting or help with a project.  
Additional Information: Any help is appreciated.  
 
Cheerleading
Grade Level: 9-12
Duration: Year-round
Practices: Summer practices including clinic in June. Practices before and/or after school during fall and winter seasons. Monday after school meetings and all-squad practices are mandatory.  
Description: Cheer at all home events away events. Responsible for locker and commons decorations for fall and winter sports; fundraising and Homecoming activities; pep rallies and cheerleading clinic.  
Requirements: Candidates must be attending or enrolling in Columbus Public or Immanuel schools at the time of tryouts. Total tryout includes evaluations from teachers and a cheer/dance audition.  
Performances: Events will vary according to athletic schedule.
Advisor: Ms. Williams
Getting Involved: Contact cheer coach in the spring. Listen for announcements regarding meetings and tryout practices.  
Additional Information: Cheerleading is an expensive and time-consuming sport. Candidates should be prepared to invest a lot of time and dedication.  
C.Y.A.D.A.
(Columbus Youth Against Drugs & Alcohol)
 
Grade Level: 9-12  
Duration: All year  
Meetings: 3rd Monday of the month 7:00 P.M. in the commons. Officer meetings as scheduled.  
Description: Club meets to organize, promote and participate in Drug Free Youth activities such as the Drug Free Lock-in.  
Requirements: Drug Free  
Projects: Determined by group.  
Advisor: Ms. Saathoff  
Getting Involved: Organizational meeting at beginning of year or contact advisors.  
Additional Information: All interested drug free students welcome.  

Dance Team
Grade Level: 9-12
Duration: Year-round
Practices: Summer practices including clinic in June. 4-day camp is optional. Practices before and/or after school during fall and winter seasons. 2 practices a week are mandatory.  
Description: Responsible for supporting Columbus High athletics and dancing at all basketball games during halftime. Will be responsible for dancing at pep rallies and participating in fundraising events.  
Requirements: Candidates must be attending or enrolling in Columbus Public or Immanuel schools at the time of tryouts. Tryout includes a dance audition.  
Projects/Competitions: Events will vary according to athletic schedule.

Destination Imagination
Grade Level: 9-12
Duration: October-May
Meetings: Once per week for 1-2 hours
Description: Destination Imagination is an exciting competition for students which combines the excitement of athletic competition with creative mental gymnastics. The Destination Imagination program encourages the use of creative and futuristic thinking skills.  
Projects/Competitions: Regional competition in March, state competition in April, world competition in May.

German Club
Grade Level: 9-12
Duration: All year
Meetings: 4th Monday of the month 7:00 P.M. in portable 191-D. unless otherwise stated. Twice a month during competition practice in the spring.  
Description: Club meets to encourage the study and use of the German language and culture outside of the classroom. Members participate in the state foreign language fair and compete in various events. Events include poetry reading, German quiz bowl, posters and one-act skits. Members may also participate in a community–service project.  
Competitions: Competitions are in the spring and are held at various high schools and universities in the state.  
Advisor: Ms. Mohr

Additional Information: Anyone interested in the German language or culture is welcome.
IMPROV
Grade Level: 9-12
Duration: All year
Practices/Meetings: As needed
Description: A small select group trained to address a variety of topics using theater as the “vehicle” to generate discussion with the audience. IMPROV is a health promotion tool that raises awareness, generates solutions and teaches decision making skills regarding health problems facing young people.  
Requirements: Drug Free
Performances: As requested by community groups or educators.
Advisor: Ms. Keller and Ms. Saathoff
Getting Involved: IMPROV tryouts are held in the spring for appointment to the troupe for the following year. Contact advisor.  
Intramural Basketball  
Grade Level: 9-12 boys and girls  
Duration: January and February  
Games: No practices. Games are scheduled when gyms are available. Games start at 7:00 p.m.  
Description: Intramural basketball is an activity available to all students not out for 9th grade, Sophomore, J.V. or Varsity basketball. Students are allowed to make up their own teams of between 7 and 10 players. Cost is approximately $5 to cover referees. This is a fun activity providing some exercise to students who want to get involved.  
Eligibility: Same as other school activities.  
Competitions: Approximately 8-10 nights, one or two nights per week.  
Advisor: Mr. Steiner  
Getting Involved: Students should attend an organizational meeting in December or contact supervisors.  
National Art Society
Grade Level: Second semester 9th–12th grade
Duration: All year
Meetings: Once or twice a month. Major projects may happen on weekends/or evenings.  
Description: School and community activities that support and enhance the arts. We sponsor art shows and create art works such as murals.  
Requirements: Students who have a minimum of a "B" in art classes may join.
Projects: Vary according to need.

National Honor Society

Grade Level: 10-12
Duration: All year
Meetings: Meetings every other Tuesday in the IMC.
Description: Honor organization, which recognizes students for outstanding scholarship, leadership, service and character.  
Requirements: Demonstrate strong scholarship (G.P.A. 3.5), leadership, service and character within the school and community.  
Projects: Students selected for the National Honor Society conduct various service projects (fundraising, peer tutoring, etc.).  
Advisor: Ms. Hartman and Ms. Droescher
Getting Involved: A list of eligible students will be posted in the office window the beginning of first semester; students may make application at this time. Students will be selected by a faculty advisory committee based on application and evaluation of leadership, service and character.  
Quiz Bowl
Grade Level: 9-12
Duration: September-May
Meetings: Weekly practice on Thursday 3:45-4:45 p.m. in Room 2112
Requirements: Student needs to stay academically eligible.
Competitions: Students will compete against other high school students at local, regional, and state competitions.  
Advisor: Ms. Schroeder
Getting Involved: Speak to one of the advisors. Go to a practice session.
Renaissance
Grade Level: 9-12
Duration: August-May
Meetings: Alternate Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m.
Description: Renaissance is a recognition program encouraging students to improve the atmosphere within their school. The program uses the powerful motivators of recognition and reward to give students a real stake in their own success.  
Projects: New Student Orientation, School Spirit, Community Service, Attendance, Academic Achievement  
Advisor: Ms. Nitz
Getting Involved: Attend a meeting and join.
Skills-USA
Grade Level: 9-12
Duration: Year-round
Meetings: Meetings are on first and third Monday 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Description: SkillsUSA is a national organization serving near 250,000 high school and college students and professional members who are enrolled in training programs in technical, skilled or service occupations, including health occupations. Student members gain self esteem, pride in their work, and leadership and professional development skills to help make a smooth transition from school to the workplace  
Requirements: Must take 1 T & I related class in the 7-12 grade level.
Projects/Competitions: 4-5 projects, Fall Leadership Conference, Mid-America Conference, state competition and possibly 1 national competition.  
Advisor: Mr. Dodson

Additional Information: Active membership dues are $15.00. There will be additional costs to attend the conferences.  
Student Council
Grade Level: 9-12
Duration: Year-round
Meetings: Thursday mornings 7:40; three summer meetings; two district workshops and state convention  
Description: Student Council allows CHS students to develop leadership skills both in school and the community. Students attend weekly meetings, plan events and represent the CHS student body. Students also have the opportunity to attend leadership training at the local, state and national levels.  
Requirements: Elected positions, which take place in April.

T.T.A.D.A.
(Teens Teaching Against Drugs & Alcohol)
Grade Level: Sophomores/Juniors/Seniors
Duration: Fall/Spring
Meetings: 5-6 times, 30 minutes, to go over lesson plans and expectations
Description: The goal is to help prevent alcohol and drug use by the youth of our community by educating 4th graders and serving as role models. Each student attends the workshop to learn the dangers of alcohol and drug use then teaches the same information to 4th graders at selected elementary buildings.
Requirements: Sophomores/Juniors/Seniors - drug/alcohol free
Projects: Teach 3 times–in a 4th grade classroom, 2 day workshop
Advisor: Ms. Mustard
Getting Involved: Application-contact advisors. Recommendations by teachers and/or peers that have been in T.T.A.D.A.
