Circulation Policy
- Who may check out materials? - Any student attending Columbus Middle
School, as well as any faculty, or staff member of CMS may check out
library materials unless their library privileges have
been revoked.
- What is needed to check out materials? - Students must present their
CMS ID card when checking out materials. Students who have forgotten,
or lost, their ID card will not be allowed to check out materials until
they can present a valid ID.
- How long can materials be checked out? - Vertical files, reference
books, video tapes, and magazines are due back on the next day school
is in session. Library books are due three weeks from the day they are
checked out. Computer CD- Roms, and certain reference books, may not
be checked out.
- Are there materials parents may check out? - Yes, there are. Parents
who wish to check out library materials should make special arrangements
with the librarian.
Fines
- The CMS IMC does not charge fines.
Lost Materials
- All library materials checked out on a student's ID card are the responsibility
of that student.
- If library materials have not been returned 30 days after the date
they were due they will be presumed to have been lost. The student
will
be charged the price of the material(s) lost.
- If lost materials are subsequently found and returned after they have
been paid for, the student will be refunded the price of the material(s)
minus any fines owed the IMC.
Returning Materials
- Materials are placed in the book return slot in the circulation desk
which is on the patron's left as you enter the IMC. Also, materials
which a student has taken off of the shelf to use in the IMC, but has
not checked out, should be placed here instead of being reshelved
by
the student.

Computers
-
All computers in the IMC, except the Public Access Catalog computers,
have Microsoft Word installed and are available for student use. These
same
computers also have Internet access. Students accessing the Internet
in the IMC will use the Internet for school activities and will be
bound
by the Columbus Public Schools Acceptable Use Policy.
- Students using a computer in the IMC should be familiar with saving
their work to the student file server. This will enable them to continue
their work on any computer at CMS which is on the building network instead
of having to use the same machine each time they come to the IMC. No
one can be certain of being able to use the same computer each time
they come to the IMC.
Internet Use in the IMC
All student use of the Internet in the IMC will be for school purposes
only. The Columbus Public Schools Acceptable Use Policy is in effect
whether
or not a student has a personal Internet account. Violation of this policy,
in addition to other consequences, may result in the student losing all
IMC privileges. No computer in the IMC is set up for students to do e-mail.
Internet use is filtered.
