Services Provided

Four areas of Speech Development are served in the Speech Room:

*Articulation (pronouncing sounds and words correctly)
*Language (receptive and expressive skills)
*Fluency (stuttering)
*Voice (vocal quality)

Obtaining Services

Obtaining services usually follows this procedure:
1) Classroom teacher referral
2) Parental permission for diagnostic testing
3) Diagnostic evaluation of student by Speech/Language Pathologist
4) Notification of Multidisciplinary Team Meeting (MDT) to the parents to discuss results of the diagnostic testing and verification criteria
5) If criteria is met and student qualifies for services, an Individual Education Plan Meeting (IEP) is held
6) Parental permission is required in order for a student to be placed into any speech/language therapy program
7) All IEP's are reviewed on an annual basis with the speech/language pathologist (case manager)

Home/School Connection

Each child has a Speech Homework Folder. Assignments are given for students to practice the articulation sound or sounds they are working on. This is to provide them with extra mass practice in the home setting to help establish carry-over of those sounds on a consistent basis in their conversational speech. There is a designated spot for a parent signature on the assignments and a date that the assignment is due.
