Music Is Alive At CMS
Sing Around Columbus

Sing Around Columbus took place Thursday, Sept. 24 in the Nantkes Auditorium in CMS, postponed from April 2020.

Eighty-five students in grades 5, 6 and 7 prepared the selected music in advance and then rehearsed the music with the super-talented and fun guest clinician Adam Goos from Wakefield and accompanist Katherine Welk from Hastings.

The clinician and the students had the big task of making music while the children were socially distanced and masked. Together they demonstrated grit, passion and beauty as they sang their tails off at each rehearsal and at Thursday's performance.

They performed three songs for a limited and socially distanced audience which included a traditional Hebrew tune called "Haidi," a driving gospel tune called "Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel," and the flowing and harmonious "River Song."

Sing Around Columbus is directed by music teachers Brianna Blunk, Zaidya Hirschman, Steph Bourek-Hoyt, Kerri Jones, Cherie Stadler, and Celeste Ditter.

CMS Talent Show

Thirty-five students will take the stage Friday night, Oct. 2, as the performers of the 2020 CMS Talent Show.

Students prepared on their own time a self-selected talent and auditioned during the second week of school. The students performing this year are students who have risen up to the challenge, risking so much for the chance to perform.

The show will feature clogging, lyrical dance solos and duets. Also featured will be vocalists in many styles of music ranging from contemporary christian, musicals and alternative pop.

There will be some laughs with our acting duo and emotional performances from many students.

The show will close up with our tradition of a teacher/student dance together to the song “Brave” by Sara Bareilles. The Talent Show’s theme this year is USE YOUR VOICE - encouraging our students to speak up and be bold! The students in the Talent Show are coached by Michael Klee, Steph Bourek-Hoyt, Abby Marshall, and Celeste Ditter.
