Suess Week Calendar

The first week of March was a week full of fun and activities for West Park Elementary as they celebrated Read Across America.

Each day, students had the opportunity to dress up in a different theme based on a book title by Dr. Seuss, and they were able to participate in an event. On Monday, Fox in Socks allowed students to wear wacky socks. Students also paired up with different grade levels for buddy reading in the library. Fourth grade read with first grade, third grade read with Kindergarten, and second grade read with our preschool class.

On Tuesday, Dr. Seuss Sleep Book meant pajama day for students. Throughout the day, students were able to stop at the library for a 15-minute, 30-minute, or 45-minute drop everything and read session.

Teachers scheduled time increments that fit into their schedule, while students sprawled out on the floor, on cushions and bean bags for silent reading in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday.

On “Wacky Wednesday,” students found their best mix-match clothing style for the day. Plus, they were able to attend the book sale in the library, which offered gently used hardcover books for only $1.

If "I Ran the Zoo" was Thursday’s theme. Students to wear any animal print or clothing with animals on it. All certified staff members offered station rotations for students to attend on Thursday afternoon, which included games, activities, and crafts. The week will end with The Cat in the Hat theme on Friday. Students are allowed to wear their favorite hat. On Friday afternoon, West Park will host a school-wide BINGO via Zoom.

BINGO will be hosted by a special guest, the Cat in the Hat himself. Then, the Cat in the Hat will deliver books to all the classrooms before the end of the schoolday.

This ended the exciting week of Read Across America Week at West Park Elementary.

We can’t wait to plan it again next year!
