Career Day

On March 8th, all CPS 4th grade students traveled to Central Community College in Columbus for Career Day organized by the school counselors. Students spent the afternoon learning about the six fields from the Nebraska Career & Technical Education Model.

The Elementary and Middle School Counselors led each station teaching students about career opportunities in that field.

Community members whose careers fit into the specific clusters helped at each station and provided hands-on activities to help students explore their interests. Students were able to learn more and ask questions about a variety of career opportunities.

Throughout the event, CCC tour guides led groups to various buildings and classrooms around campus.  4th graders received a t-shirt, ate lunch on campus, saw the dorms and Student Center, and got an overall sense of what a college campus is like.

We hope this event will begin or expand student exposure to a variety of career interests.  Anchor Time lessons will follow up on developmentally appropriate College and Career readiness. This event is part of the comprehensive School Counseling Program.
