Many of us remember when we took the ACT. There was minimal preparation and effort other than taking the time to register and show up the day of the exam. With the ACT becoming part of the Nebraska testing system, and the opportunity to better prepare students for life after high school, every CHS junior has the privilege to take the exam.
For a number of years, Columbus High has used the John Baylor OnToCollege ACT test preparation with all juniors. In the months of January, February, and March, CHS core teachers utilize the OnToCollege system in their classes to ensure all juniors have the opportunity to learn the details needed to improve their ACT score. Our objective is to have each student improve their score and potentially open new opportunities for their future education and career.
This January, John Baylor (the voice of Husker Volleyball) personally presented introductory lessons from the OnToCollege curriculum. With his personality and popularity, Mr. Baylor has gained somewhat of a celebrity following when he comes to Columbus High. Students will talk to him one-on-one at the conclusion of his presentations, take pictures with him and get his autograph, and he routinely gets invited to eat lunch by our students.
