Dear Community Members,
This past fall a mailed survey was sent to all voters who voted in the May 9th bond referendum for Columbus Public Schools. We are inviting you to attend a meeting on January 16th at the VFW beginning at 7:00 pm.
As Columbus continues to grow in population Columbus Public Schools grows both in enrollment as well as in special programming needs.
The bond referendum proposed the following solutions:
Build a new K-4 elementary school.
Addresses student capacity issues at the elementary level across the district.
Add a classroom addition to Columbus Middle School.
Addresses the issue of CMS currently being over its 1200 student capacity. This project would also open up 12 classrooms that would be used for needed grade level expansion and for special education and english learner students.
Cafeteria renovation at Columbus Middle School.
The current cafeteria was built to serve 900 high school students due to open lunch. We currently serve 1200 middle school students in that same cafeteria.
Cafeteria upgrade at 4 of the elementary schools.
Currently at North Park, Emerson, and West Park the gym serves as the cafeteria. As student enrollment has grown this causes issues in scheduling lunch and/or having PE classes.
Classroom addition at Columbus High School.
CHS has now maximized all of the classroom space for career programming and growth in special programs. These areas have grown greatly in the 10 years since the bond passed.
Renovate the current CPS administration building into an Alternative Learning Center.
Please strongly consider attending to help us navigate our next steps. We value our community opinion and positions and want to hear from each of you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Troy Loeffelholz, Superintendent
