The Columbus Public Schools Board of Education has selected Dr. Chip Kay to become their superintendent of schools for the 2024-2025 school year.  Dr. Kay has accepted the position and will begin on/about July 1st. The board of education will vote to accept Dr. Kay’s contract as the next Superintendent of Columbus Public Schools on Monday, March 25th at 5:30pm at the Kramer Education Center.

The board of education released a statement, “We believe that Dr. Chip Kay is the best choice to head CPS due, in part, to the leadership skills and fiscal responsibility he has exhibited during his tenure as Finance Director for the district. He has also shown us his vision for the future of CPS and we believe that it aligns with what our staff, stakeholders, and board of education expect in a leader. We look forward to working with Dr. Kay for many years to come”.

“We were fortunate to attract three quality candidates for the next superintendent.  Dr. Chip Kay was our unanimous choice.  In his four years with the district, Dr. Kay has demonstrated the skills and demeanor to lead CPS.  The interview process gave him the opportunity to outline an impressive vision for the future of Columbus Public Schools” said Doug Willoughby, Board President.

Dr. Kay stated, “I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve as the next Superintendent for Columbus Public Schools. During the next few months, I will be working behind the scenes with Dr. Loeffelholz and the Board of Education to make the transition of leadership a smooth and seamless process.  I am appreciative of the leadership, mentoring, and guidance provided by Dr. Loeffelholz during his tenure at CPS.”

“As part of the transition plan, there will be a time and place for collaboration and conversations about Columbus Public Schools. When those opportunities occur I look forward to meeting with staff and stakeholders to listen and discuss a plan for keeping our District moving in the right direction to serve all students.”

Dr. Chip Kay has served the Columbus Public Schools as the Director of Finance and HR for the past four years.  Prior to coming to Columbus, Dr. Kay served as Superintendent of Shelby-Rising City from 2013-2020.  Dr. Kay received his Doctorate in Education Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2023 and has 32 years of experience in education.
