Close of the 2019-2020 School Year

1. Columbus High School Graduation: August 2, 2020 at 3:00 p.m.

  • Graduation will occur on August 2, 2020 in one of three ways: traditional, alternate, or virtual.  Please mark your calendars. More details will be shared by Mr. Hiebner. The DHM would have to be lifted prior to July 17, 2020 for a Traditional or Alternative Graduation to occur.

    • If your child intends to participate in the graduation ceremony, please contact your counselor via email by July 17, 2020.

    • Traditional: We hope that the DHM restrictions will be lifted and we can hold a traditional graduation ceremony in the CHS gym.

    • Alternative: If the DHM restrictions have changed, but not sufficiently enough to hold a traditional graduation ceremony (Group of at least 1,000 people), we will offer some alternative options. This will only include the graduate and parents.

    • Virtual: If the DHM restrictions remain very strict we will provide a virtual ceremony that includes streaming for public viewing.

    • Seniors that would like to be considered as a speaker for graduation, please video your speech and send it to Ms. Wallin no later than May 8, 2020. (The speech needs to be one to two minutes in length).

2. Graduation Rehearsal: July 31, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in East gym

  • We will only hold a graduation rehearsal if we are able to proceed with a traditional graduation ceremony.  More details will be shared by Mr. Hiebner as we get closer to this date.

  • If you don’t attend practice, you will be ineligible to participate in the ceremony.

  • Caps and Gowns will be picked up at this time.

3. Honors Night: May 14, 2020

  • The Honors Night ceremony will be released virtually to honor our graduates. More details will be shared by Mr. Hiebner and/or the School Counselors as we get closer to this date.

4. “Prom”: July 31, 2020, 9:00 - 12:00 a.m.

  • This will only occur if the DHM restrictions are lifted by July 17.  If DHM restrictions remain in place, the event will be cancelled with no plans to reschedule.

  • Tentative Details:

    • Juniors and Seniors, and their dates, are invited to attend.

    • Prom will be held at CHS

    • Post-Prom is TBD.

    • Formal/Informal attire.

5. Top 10% Celebration

  • Students will be recognized through a press release and on district and high school social media.

  • Awards will be mailed to each of the students.

6. Summer School:

  • We will be working on an on-line option to be offered to Senior High students during the month of June.  More details will be shared by Mr. Hiebner as we get closer to the end of the school year.

Our school district administration has participated in multiple conversations with the NE Commissioner of Education and Governor Ricketts.  We are making these decisions based on their guidance.

  • Directed Health Measure (DHM): “No School or Extra-curricular Activities through May 31st.” (Ricketts)

  • “Schools should not expect to have kids in classrooms until next Fall.” (Ricketts)

  • “Graduation will be tough to plan. Don’t expect to hold graduation until the second half of summer close to August 1st at the earliest. Restrictions will be lessened gradually. Planning anything other than virtual before August will be risky.” (Ricketts)

  • “I do not expect that we will be able to run Summer School in the traditional sense.” (Commissioner)
