U.S. Congressman Mike Flood speaks to his path to working in Federal Government and as a politician. Flood was a speaker for Federal Day at CHS, an event that showcased federal leaders and their roles within government as well as jobs in agency.

Columbus High School welcomed Congressman Mike Flood and other federal leaders for Federal Government Day on Thursday, September 25. 

FBI Special Agent Eugene Kowel discusses opportunities and career paths within inside the bureau to a group of CHS students during Federal Day. The event showcased federal leaders and their roles within government as well as jobs in agency.

With the help of Social Studies Instructors Mr. Nathan Coan, Mr. Jon Shea, and Mr. Zack Wayman, Columbus High School was able to have students hear about the roles and career opportunities in the areas of the federal courts, FBI, National Weather Service, Library of Congress, Veterans Affairs, Census Bureau, and the Small Business Administration.  

The opportunity for students to engage with federal government officials, including Congressman Mike Flood, has the potential to increase civic engagement and foster a deeper understanding of the federal government's role.  CHS students have attended Platte County Government Day for years, and the opportunity to have a government day that focuses on the organizations at the federal level can grow their understanding of the role of government and the career opportunities that exist. 

Suzanne Fortin recalls her early career as a storm chaser to CHS students during Federal Day. Fortin is now the Meteorologist-In-Charge at the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley Office.
