On March 1, 2024 Columbus Public Schools Board of Education held a special meeting to vote on a resolution calling an election in conjunction with the primary election in our school district on May 14, 2024. The proposition to be voted on will be a bond issue not to exceed Twenty-six Million Dollars ($26,000,000) for the purpose of providing funds to pay the costs of additions, renovations and improvements to the District's existing buildings and facilities, which may include;

  1. Safety and security improvements in the District’s existing buildings to include installation of bullet resistant window coverings, cameras and secure and controlled entrances,
  2. Additions and improvements to existing elementary buildings to include dining areas and kitchens at Centennial, Emerson, North Park and West Park elementary schools,
  3. Addition and improvements to the existing middle school building to include a classroom addition and remodeling of dining facilities, and
  4. Providing for the necessary furniture, equipment and apparatus for such additions, renovations and improvements.

This is a newly restructured bond issue that takes into consideration the results of the post 2023 bond voter survey, the board of education's town hall meeting held on January 16th, and the effects that LB 878 could have on our growing school district. While this bond issue does not include several measures from the 2023 ballot initiative it starts a process with our community to work on projects based upon immediate needs in our current buildings.  We still need to plan for future growth and it is important to note that in two to four years the school district will have to consider another bond issue for a future elementary school and other additions to accommodate the great programs we have to offer our students.

More information will be coming in the near future so that you may be the ambassadors of our students in the community.
