Today we had a blast celebrating with our North Park Explorers who really got how important reading is. They accepted their Accelerated Reading goals and worked hard all semester to read and hit those targets!

Did you know that kids who are read to end up with bigger vocabularies (like hearing 1.4 million more words by kindergarten if they’re read to every day), better cognitive skills (like focus, memory, and critical thinking), stronger emotional well-being (think relaxation, happiness, and confidence), and better academic performance? Early literacy is a big indicator of future success!

Our kids who fall in love with reading and choose to read on their own gain so many advantages.

Reading:

*Boosts vocabulary. The more you read, the more words you pick up for your everyday use.

*Lowers stress levels.

*Enhances writing skills.

*Supports mental health.

*Fosters empathy.

*Strengthens memory.

*Increases knowledge and brainpower.

and

*Enhances focus and concentration!

Soon, North Park will be launching an initiative for all of our students to get their own Columbus Public Library card! Keep an eye out, be looking in your child's backpack for an informational letter and some papers to sign to kick off the process of getting a Public Library Card in the hands of all our students!
