Meet Ms. Shaiko! She teaches EL Math. Before coming to CMS, she taught for two years in California. While in California, she taught 3rd grade. She then taught for one year in Kansas. She went to Iowa State University and has a degree in elementary education. She likes her job now and wouldn't teach any other grade or class. Her favorite part about teaching is seeing a student grasp the information she has been teaching. Ms. Shaiko thinks that Wednesday is the best day of the week and that orange is the best color, so everyone should wear orange on Wednesdays. She likes to listen to Tate McRae and Olivia Dean on the way to school!

🏐 Last night at CMS, all 8th grade volleyball players played great! The C team put up a fight and brought a victory for the Discoverers! The B team put up a good effort but unfortunately lost. The A team battled hard, losing the first set, coming back in the second, but unfortunately falling in the third.

Meet Mr. Semin! He is our new 7th-grade social studies teacher who helps lead flag football and basketball. He loves sports and has a hidden passion for photography. Inspired by his teachers, his father, and his grandma, who read to him as a child, he became a teacher to inspire others. Fun fact: If he had to fight 100 duck-sized horses or one horse-sized duck, he would choose the duck!

They are identifying, describing, and comparing three-dimensional figures by investigating nets of 3D objects. After learning the names and attributes of these figures, students used pull-up nets to create and describe each one. 🟦🔺📦

Please welcome Ms. Jennifer Dillon. Ms. Dillon is our new 5th Grade Reading teacher. She went to college at Wayne State and got her degree in early-child development. Before she became our reading teacher, she was a teacher at a daycare and a substitute teacher/para at CMS for a long time, and two years ago she signed a contract to become a teacher. She became a reading teacher here because she loves working with students this age, because she says that “This is the age that it's like they are still kids but they are still growing up.” If she could teach a different subject, she said she would teach PE because it's a class where the expectations are different and the students can be more active. She decided that if she could be any mythical being/creature she would be a witch. And if she could make a new school rule, she would put nap time in the middle of the day to give the students a rest period.

Our young scientists practiced working with data tables and graphs, then interpreted what the information revealed. This was a great step in understanding how scientists use data to make sense of the world around us! 🔬📊

We'd like to present Ms. Dawson! This is her first year teaching at CMS. She went to college in Wayne and got her degree in special education K-12. She likes to teach her students and wants the best for them, helping them achieve everything they dream of. In her free time, she LOVES to read books and watch anime. In fact, her favorite anime is called ¨One Punch Man." One piece of wisdom that she would like to share is that it's okay to not know what you want to do right out of high school. You can take a couple of years to figure that out, and you don't have to be stressed. Overall, this is Ms. Dawson, and we hope she has a great first year teaching.

What a great way to practice precision, listening, and teamwork—all while having fun with geometry! 📐✨

They kicked off the season today competing in their very first meet at Boone Central. 🏃♂️🏃♀️
A special shoutout to our medalists—Oscar placed 2nd and Carter placed 9th! 🥈🏅
Way to represent, CMS—we’re proud of you! 👏💙

We are so excited to have these role models take time out of their busy schedules to help our 5th graders every Friday! From tackling tricky math problems to mastering the brand-new skill of opening lockers, their support makes such a difference.
The best part? You should see our 5th graders’ eyes light up when the Seniors walk into the room! 💡✨
Thank you, Seniors—you are AWESOME, and we appreciate you! 🙌

Students listened to short music clips and then described the sounds using similes and metaphors. From “as smooth as melted chocolate” to “a drumbeat like a racing heart,” their figurative language skills came alive!
They wrapped up by sharing their favorites with the class—such a fun and musical way to practice writing with creativity and expression. 🎼📝💡

Students explored how a one-way mirror works by experimenting with a box model made up of two “rooms.” They tested how changing the light in each room affects what can be seen through the mirror.
💡 Light in one room, darkness in the other... what happens?
💡 Light in both rooms... or dark in both... how does that change what we see?
Through these hands-on investigations, students are discovering how light plays a huge role in what (and how) we see the world around us! 🌍👀

Our middle schoolers brought the energy last night at the Columbus vs. Norfolk High School football game! 🤍🙌 They were on their feet cheering the entire time and made it such a fun, spirited section!

This week, they began a special writing assignment exploring what makes their name special!

This week, our 6th graders created puzzle pieces to represent themselves during advisory. Each piece highlights their unique personalities, talents, and interests, showing how together they make our school community whole.
