“Your totem is your story, your search, and your past. Everybody has their own. That’s why you carve. That’s why you dance the dances. That’s why you live life—-to discover and create your own story.” After reading the book "Touching Spirit Bear" by Ben Mikaelsen, the 8th grade Language Arts students made their own totem poles to share their own stories.

A group of 7th-grade students attended WIN time for enrichment today in the style of an escape room. They worked in teams to solve clues about Ancient Egypt and open a series of locks. After they solved all 5 locks they were able to open the box and discover the surprise inside! All three teams were successful with time to spare!

Nebraska Extension – Platte County led the 4-H School Enrichment program called Leadership Summit for all CMS 5th graders on Thursday, November 8th at CMS. The Leadership Summit was a hiking theme leadership experience where students spent all day learning about themselves and how to work with others. The morning featured the opportunity to learn about their own personality and how they naturally operate as a leader as well as learning how to recognize, accept and value differences among their peers. After lunch, students rotated through sessions called Scenic Lookout (how to be an effective listener), Teamwork Tightrope (teamwork through communication), Tower Building (teamwork through working together) and Cards of Value (learning how to treat everyone respectfully). The day was a great opportunity for students to learn actively about how to be a great leader.

7th grade Social Studies finished their ancient Egypt unit with their Shark Tank projects. They presented "new" inventions from ancient Egypt to convince our Shark Tank Judges to invest in their company. Some of those new inventions include pyramids, embalming, bandages, papyrus, wigs, ink, and toothpaste. It was a great culminating project that tied in economics as well.
