Coding: where logic meets creativity. The Kindergarteners had the opportunity to embark on a coding journey this past week thanks to the Platte County 4H Extension office. They learned how robots work and how robots can help assist and enhance human lives, from medical advancements to everyday tasks. During this experience, the students had the opportunity to learn and experiment with coding by using a coding robot. They had to create a code to help the robot mouse find the pretend cheese. They sure had a fun time "mousing" around!

Oh, the places they'll go! The Kindergarten hallway has been decorated with all things Dr. Seuss to help celebrate Read Across America this month. Dr. Seuss' books are some of our students' favorites to read and listen to as they have many fun rhyming words and silly pictures to look at.

The Kindergarteners have been learning about tradespeople from colonial times and how different life was long ago compared to today. The other day, they learned about how challenging it was to build houses and make clothing. They have learned about how many of these jobs are still around today, but our updated technology makes these jobs easier to perform and complete faster than hundreds of years ago.

It's always fun to find new ways to practice! The Kindergarteners have been working hard on learning how to read and write this year. Today they practiced sounding out words and writing the words on magna-tiles with whiteboard markers. Time flies when you're having fun and these almost first graders are ready for next year's challenges!

Students in 1st grade enjoyed learning about the Solar System and Earth's place in the universe in Reading Knowledge Domain 6. They learned facts about the solar system, planets, astronauts, and haven't wanted to take down the classroom display. Did you know that it would take more than 3 months on the fastest rocket ship to reach the sun?! They also enjoyed learning about the history and layers of the Earth in Reading Knowledge Domain 7. They got to learn a bit about dinosaurs, fossils, geologists and paleontologists in that unit. It's been fun having older students share what they're learning and making connections to 1st grade content! They are always wondering what hallway displays the 1st grade classes will put up next to brighten the hallways!

You won't want to "mist" this! The Kindergarteners are "snow" excited to share their finished hallway display of all of the seasons. They've spent the past few weeks learning about each season and the type of weather that occurs during winter, spring, summer, and fall (also known as autumn). This unit was full of "weather-ful" learning!

The Kindergarteners at North Park had a fun-filled day celebrating the 100th day of school on Monday. They practiced counting to 100 many times that day which included making necklaces by counting 100 pieces of fruit loops cereal, making 100 dots on an art project, doing 100 jumping jacks, and even finding 100 chocolate kisses around their classroom. 100 days of learning is definitely worth celebrating!

Here ye, hear ye! The kindergarteners declare that every unit should end with a dance party from now on. The students have been learning about kings and queens in their recent reading unit so to celebrate the end of this unit, the classes each had their very own royal tea party and ball. The students thoroughly enjoyed dressing up, making crowns, eating special treats, drinking out of fancy cups, and they even got to learn how to dance at a ball. We think that it’s safe to say that they had a royally good time!

North Park Student Council hosted their first Blood Drive along with some CHS students. The goal was to collect 38 units and we surpassed that and collected 44 units! Thank you to everybody that came and donated! The winter months are especially a critical time to donate as supply is low.
